- Well, after getting AWeb all fixed up (which was really a problem
- with the datatypes, not with AWeb [it crashed multiview as well]), I surfed
- the web for a while. Like about 3 hours. I've never used Netscape for more
- than about 30 minutes without it crashing on me. I was impressed.
-
-
- First off, I have an A1200 with an MX1230A 030/50/50/4. I also have
- a 14.4 modem. I was using Amitcp 4.0 demo.
-
-
- First off I noticed that AWeb's interface was clean and well-laid
- out. It lacks those quick-start buttons like on Netscape, and all the icons
- are grouped over on the side. I like that.
-
- The online documentation covers everything. Real nice, decently
- thorough...
-
- Okay but how does it perform? Well, at 14.4, decently. A LOT better
- than IBrowse (although granted I've never used IBrowse for more than a
- fewminutes at a time as it always crashes on me). Thankfully AWeb doesn't
- use MUI, so it goes nice and speedy on my system. ONe thing I did notice was
- that the settings menu was weird. I'd select it and then have to wait for a
- few seconds for it to pop up. slightly annoying. And then after a few hours
- the settings menu just stopped even popping up. Weird.
-
-
- AWeb has full multithreading support. It also has this cool window
- that shows what it's doing. So you can see what files are loading and being
- processed.. I like that, it makes the wait a lot less tedious.
-
-
- I didn't get a chance to check out any tables yet though, I guess I
- didn't really run into any.
-
- ONe weird thing I did notice was that AWeb wasn't loading
- backgrounds. Mebbe I had the settings wrong or something. I should look into
- that..
-
-
-
- All in all, it got the job done. It's nothing too spiffy or fancy
- but it does do it's job well. All in all I'd say it's a solid web browser,
- but at 14.4, and without a graphics card, I pretty much just think of it as
- a clickable, better layed-out version of lynx ;) (i.e. better for text than
- images).
-
-
- What did you all think of it?
